Mary Lee Daugherty, an ordained Presbyterian minister, enjoyed 40 years of friendship with serpent-handling Christians. She founded the Appalachian Ministries Educational Resources Center in Berea, Kentucky, which she directed until her 1999 retirement. She died in 2004.
