Senator Robert C. Byrd recalls the Great Depression

Byrd: "I sold the Cincinnati Post when I was a little boy, and I saved up seven dollars. I put that seven dollars in a bank in Matoaka, West Virginia; the bank went under and I haven’t seen my seven dollars since. The depression hit everybody hard. We didn’t have much, didn’t expect much. We lived close to the earth."
