James L. Spencer is a graduate of Canisius College (B.A., psychology, 1976) and Ohio State University (M.A., 1979, Ph. D., 1984, both in comparative psychology). He is professor emeritus at West Virginia State University, where he taught for 35 years, including nine years as chair of the Psychology department. He published a book and several articles during his time at the school. He currently resides in Cross Lanes.
