Lost World Caverns, one of the largest in the state, is located about two miles north of Lewisburg. The cave has around 6,000 feet of passages, but the normal tour shows only about 600 feet.
Discovered in 1942, it was originally called Grapevine Cave. The first way to enter was through a 115-foot vertical shaft using a rope. In 1968, a new entrance was dug, and then improved in the 1980s to make for an easier walk. One of the most exciting parts is a huge room about 300 feet long, 50 feet wide, and 50 feet high. It features stunning calcite formations, including unique columns, stalagmites, and stalactites.
In 1971, Bob Addis, who managed the cave, set a Guinness World Record for "stalagmite sitting" by staying on top of a stalagmite called the "war club" for 15 days, 23 hours, and 22 minutes.
