Rock Springs Park was a popular amusement park in Chester (Hancock County). The area, known for its cool springs, became a commercial park in May 1897. It was easy to get to because a new trolley line went directly to the entrance. At its peak, the park was huge, sometimes hosting up to 20,000 visitors daily. Popular rides included the Old Mill and the Scenic Railway. Visitors could also swim, boat, visit a zoo, and dance.
In 1915, a fire on the Old Mill ride tragically killed four people. The park later struggled through financial problems, all made worse during the Great Depression. Rock Springs Park closed in 1970. All the structures were sold and torn down a few years later to make way for a new road and a bridge. The spring "that flowed from a solid wall of rock" is now a trickle in the basin between the roads.
