Chief Logan, born around 1725 in Pennsylvania, was the son of Oneida chief Shikellamy. He became Cayuga chief in 1748 and worked to maintain peace with settlers. In the 1770s, he moved to the Ohio River Valley and joined the Mingoes.

In 1774, after frontiersmen killed his family in present-day Hancock County, Logan sought revenge through raids. This escalated into broader conflict, leading to the Shawnees' defeat at the Battle of Point Pleasant. Logan later expressed sorrow over the violence and was killed in 1780, possibly by his nephew.

He is honored by Logan County, the town of Logan, and Chief Logan State Park.
