Thomas W. Bennett was a conscientious objector who earned the Medal of Honor for his bravery as an Army medic in the Vietnam War. Born in Morgantown, he was active in school, church, and the Boy Scouts. Though he opposed the war, he chose to serve as a noncombat medic rather than avoid the draft. He was killed while trying to save a wounded soldier during a battle in Vietnam.
Several places are named in his honor, including Bennett Tower at WVU and a youth center in Hawaii.
