Born Milton Supman, Soupy Sales grew up in Huntington and became a popular comedian known for throwing pies and making people laugh.

He graduated from Huntington High School and earned a journalism degree from Marshall College (now University). He started out in local radio before moving into TV in 1950, hosting kids’ shows in Cincinnati, Detroit, New York, and Los Angeles.

His biggest hit, The Soupy Sales Show, ran nationally in the 1960s. He also appeared on shows like The Ed Sullivan Show and hosted a game show in the 1970s.

In 2003, he wrote a book called Soupy Sez. He was honored with an honorary doctorate from Marshall and a plaza named after him in downtown Huntington.
