This Glen Dale native became a hall of fame third baseman for the Kansas City Royals. He grew up in a sports-loving family and was drafted by the Royals in 1971. Brett played 21 seasons, finishing with 3,154 hits and a .305 batting average. His best year was 1980, when he hit .390, one of the best in modern baseball history.

He was a 13-time All-Star, MVP winner, and helped the Royals reach two World Series. One of the most famous moments in his career was the 1983 “Pine-Tar Incident,” when he was called out for having too much pine tar on his bat after hitting a home run—and he furiously charged the field.

After retiring in 1993, Brett stayed active in baseball and business. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999.
