The group included Warren Caplinger from West Virginia, Andrew Patterson from Tennessee, and William “Flip” Strickland from Alabama. They formed the group in Akron, Ohio, in 1930. Cap led the band, played guitar, and sang bass; Andy sang lead and played guitar and fiddle; Flip sang high tenor and played mandolin and banjo.
They performed on several West Virginia radio stations and focused more on religious songs over time. They recorded only a few songs on their own label. In 1940, Flip left and was replaced by Andy’s son, Milton. The group stayed together until 1949. Afterward, Cap worked as a radio DJ, and Flip later retired in Alabama.
