This Pennsylvania native starred in four sports in high school and earned top honors in football, basketball, and baseball.

He began college at Penn State as a linebacker but transferred to West Virginia University in 1981 to play quarterback. After sitting out one year, he led WVU to 9-3 seasons in 1982 and 1983 and two bowl games. His most famous college moment was leading WVU to a surprise 41-27 win over Oklahoma in 1982, helping put WVU football back on the national map.

Hostetler joined the New York Giants in 1984 and became a hero in 1991 when he led the team to a Super Bowl win as a backup quarterback. He later played for the Raiders and the Redskins.
