This Pennsylvania native has lived in Charleston since she was a baby. She's known for her close-up paintings of plants and flowers. Starting with watercolor, she later switched to oil on canvas, creating large, detailed images that show every leaf, petal, and shadow in vibrant color.
Chilton earned her art degree from Denison University in 1968 and studied watercolor at the University of Charleston from 1976 to 1982. Her work has been shown in West Virginia, other states, and even the Smithsonian Institution. She has won many awards, including West Virginia Woman of the Year in Arts in 2006. Her paintings, found in private and corporate collections, often make the viewer feel as though they’ve stepped inside a hidden world of plants.
