Born near Wheeling, Dungan became a famous filmmaker after traveling the world. He studied in Paris and at the University of Southern California, then spent 15 years in India making movies, documentaries, and World War II training films. Later, he directed action scenes for Hollywood films and TV shows. Returning to Wheeling in 1958, he produced documentaries about West Virginia and the Ohio Valley. He earned a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1989 and was inducted into the Wheeling Hall of Fame in 1994.
