Potter Jeff Diehl moved to West Virginia in the late 1960s and trained and trained extensively with veteran potters. In 1980, he and his wife opened Lockbridge Pottery in an old schoolhouse. They made the rounds of craft fairs every year until 1996, when they decided to do all their work and sell from Lockbridge, Summers County. Diehl later adopted specialized techniques like salt firing, inspired by 16th-century German methods, and crystalline firing. He says the resulting crystals change based on the background music he plays.
