When this Parkersburg native was 12, she helped Union soldiers during the Civil War by showing them land to camp on. She became known for painting animals and flowers and worked hard to support the arts. In 1887, she started the Parkersburg Art Society and was its president. She showed her paintings at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Some of her artwork is in West Virginia museums. She's buried in a shroud she made herself.
