This photographer from Blacksburg, Virginia, traveled around West Virginia for nearly 40 years taking pictures of towns, family gatherings, church groups, schools, including these coal miners at Clifftop (Fayette County).

He used a special camera called a Cirkut that could take wide, panoramic photos up to four feet long. Ribble moved to Fayette County in 1919 and kept photographing southern West Virginia until 1957. He made over 600 photos that still show clear views of coalfield life from long ago.
