This Charleston native started college as a pre-law student but switched to art, graduating with honors from Marshall University in 1973. He earned a master of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Carolina in 1976.
After school, Snyder opened the Center for Contemporary Art in Charleston to showcase other artists' work while making his own. He soon became a full-time artist.
Snyder’s bright, geometric paintings use tape to create sharp lines and vibrating colors. Later, he painted on PVC pipes, turning them into colorful sculptures. His work changes and grows, but he never signs his pieces, believing his style should be enough to recognize them.
His art is in big companies and private collections, including those of famous people like Andre Agassi. Snyder has had over 50 solo shows and is known for new painting techniques.
