This Kanawha County native, while serving as a private with the 4th West Virginia Infantry, stormed a Confederate stronghold at Vicksburg, Mississippi, on 22 May 1863.

He was born about 1838. After the war, he worked as a wagoner in Charleston and died in Elkview (Kanawha County) in 1927. He is buried in Donnel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Institute (Kanawha County).
