This Burnt House (Ritchie County) native, while serving as a Navy seaman, demonstrated "extraordinary heroism" aboard the U.S.S. Florida during the battle of Vera Cruz, Mexico, on 21 April 1914.
He was born in 1888 and died in 1962. He is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Harrisville (Ritchie County).
