This Ohio County native, while serving as a private with the Company K, 1st West Virginia Cavalry, captured the battle flag of the 18th Florida Infantry (CSA) at Sailors Creek, Virginia, on 6 April 1865.

After the war, he was a member of the Holliday Post, Grand Army of the Republic. He was born in 1842 and died in in 1894 in Wheeling. He is buried in Wheeling's Greenwood Cemetery.
