This Edgewood (Ohio County) native, while serving as a Navy boatswain's mate second class, demonstrated "extraordinary heroism" aboard the U.S.S. Utah during the Battle of Vera Cruz, Mexico, on 21 April 1914.
After being discharged from the service, he was a tire repairman in Wheeling. He was born in 1888 and died in 1979. He is buried in Wheeling's Greenwood Cemetery.
