This Mingo Countian garnered the Medal of Honor for actions on the Arizona border during the Mexican Revolution in 1911.

He is the brother of Medal of Honor recipient Antoine Gaujot and the only soldier ever to receive the medal for peacekeeping actions.

He was born in 1874 in Eagle Harbor Township, Michigan, moved with his family in 1894 to what would become Mingo County a year later, and died in 1938 in Williamson (Mingo County). He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
