This Romney (Hampshire County) native, while serving as a private with the 116th Illinois Infantry, stormed a Confederate stronghold at Vicksburg, Mississippi, on 22 May 1863.
He was born in 1837. After the war, he moved to Illinois, where he worked as a teamster and then moved again to Montana, where he was a tinsmith. He died in Montana in 1924.
